bio:
Stoffel Vandoorne had a tough start to his motorsport career, due to the lack of funding during his early days of karting. However, his talent prevailed and he was able to compete in the F4 Eurocup, Formula Renault and eventually GP2 in 2014. After he became GP2 champion in 2015 with ART Grand Prix, he was offered a full-time drive with McLaren F1 in 2017.
Vandoorne scored points for the team, despite the poor performance of the car and competitive teammate Fernando Alonso. After the 2018 season he took up a reserve driver role in F1 at Mercedes and began his Formula E career.
He competed with HWA Racelab in the 2018-19 season, achieving a pole and podium. He spent the next 3 seasons with Mercedes EQ, winning 2 constructors titles and becoming the FE World Champion in 2021-22. Currently racing for DS Penske, Vandoorne has also been announced as the reserve driver for Aston Martin in F1 in 2023.
