Following some time in the shadows as a test and reserve driver for Mercedes EQ and ROKiT Venturi Racing, Hughes will now step up to a full-time drive with NEOM McLaren for the new Gen3 era. Whilst the British driver will enter Season 9 as a rookie, his time as a test and reserve driver as well as his participation in the 2020 Marrakesh Rookie Test, means he has some strong FE experience under his belt. 

The British driver has had a quick rise to motorsport, following a late start to his racing career with a professional karting debut at 16 years old in 2010. After racing in Formula 4 and Formula 3, Hughes also took part in the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2020, along with his simulator responsibilities for Mercedes. Given his racing background and experience, could Hughes be one to watch in Formula E?
