Hugh Barter made his single-seater debut in 2021 contesting in the French F4 Championship which allowed him to finish the year in 2nd place overall. In 2022, Barter contested in both the French F4 Championship and the F4 Spanish Championship. In the former, the Australian driver achieved 14 podiums including 10 wins and finished the year in 2nd place. In the latter, Barter took 13 podiums including 6 wins and finished the year in 2nd place overall. 

For the 2023 season, Barter is set to make his FIA Formula 3 debut racing for Campos Racing.
