TRACK GUIDE

Abu Dhabi has planted itself as the regular finale of the Formula 1 season. It's one of those races where anticipation is high regardless of what's going on in the championship.

Drivers and teams alike want to end the season on a high, all falling into that saying of "you're only as good as your last race." So they're all trying their absolute hardest to end the season the right way.

Carry on reading for the ULTIMATE track guide!

track characteristics

Yas Marina is full of tricky technical turns that are accompanied by 2 long straights.

It's a relatively simple track and is very rarely near the top of people's favourite track lists... Despite that, it has provided many a memorable moment.

It's a track where the kerbs are (usually) your friends. Drivers use all of the track here riding on the kerbs to master the technical corners.

Overtaking can be trickier here, but in 2021, they made some changes to the track to encourage better overtaking. With the new cars this year, we know it can be easier, particularly with the DRS. Qualifying however, is still vital to get right here to ensure a good track position.

It's another one of those few anti-clockwise tracks on the calendar so it can be more physically demanding on the drivers. With the G-forces striking their bodies from a different direction than normal, it can be challenging.

effect on car

Yas Marina is a medium to high downforce track. A compromise has to be made between traction in the slower corners of Sector 3 and less downforce and drag for the 2 long straights.

DRS has always been very advantageous at this track, but with the new 2022 cars, it's likely to be even more so this year.

It's a track that is relatively high on fuel consumption as well as being high on brake wear with there being around 13 braking zones.

With the track being situated in the desert, the wind can bring sand all across the track having an effect on tyre grip. The track conditions change as we transition from day to night at this track so drivers have to get accustomed to all of the changes this will have on the cars handling.
