Ayumu Iwasa made his Formula 3 debut in 2021 with Hitech Grand Prix. Iwasa had a solid start to his debut season with several point finishes and even scoring his maiden victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Japanese driver also scored a podium at Zandvoort. The season ended with Iwasa 12th in the standings. 

Iwasa moved up to F2 with the French team DAMS for the 2022 season. He had a very successful season by scoring points in over half of the 28 rounds. He scored his maiden F2 podium in Barcelona and followed that up with two more wins and three podiums. This ended his season 5th in the overall standings. For the 2023 campaign, Iwasa is set to continue with DAMS alongside Monégasque rookie, Arthur Leclerc.
